Behind the Scenes: Blending Drone Innovation with British Engineering Icon, Lotus

It’s no secret that we are massive fans of the iconic British sports car manufacturer, Lotus—the name of our company might just give that away! But our connection goes even deeper than our brand name. We also run the busiest Lotus owners club globally, The Lotus Forums, which welcomes over 1.1 million visitors to the website every single year.
Having visited Lotus’s production facilities dozens of times over the last two decades, it was an absolute privilege when they commissioned us for a unique creative project: helping showcase the company’s legendary engineering nous.
The Brief: Precision Meets High Action
Our mission took us to two incredible sites: Lotus Advanced Structures (right next to Norwich Airport) and the famous Chapman Production Centre in Hethel. LAS are the facility that take in raw aluminium extrusions and forms them into the chassis of the sports car series and the CPC is the Lotus Emira production factory, based in Hethel in Norfolk which has been home to Lotus Cars for 60 years.
The brief was simple but challenging: create an exciting, action-packed FPV (First-Person View) drone fly-through of both facilities, seamlessly blending high-speed aerial movement with detailed, cinematic close-ups of the cutting-edge work happening on the factory floor.
Precision Flying in a High-Tech Environment
Navigating a custom FPV drone through active production lines requires absolute precision. We were flying around high-value machinery, tightly packed assembly areas, and skilled technicians building world-class sports cars.
Safety and seamless collaboration were our top priorities. With the full consent of all the staff involved and a rigorous safety briefing before the props even started spinning, the entire operation was executed flawlessly and completely without incident.
The Result
We love pushing the boundaries of what commercial drones can achieve, and capturing the heartbeat of a legendary automotive brand was an unforgettable experience. We believe the final footage fulfilled the brief to the letter, capturing the raw energy, precision, and passion that defines Lotus.
